Peter Lawson Jones

As a Cuyahoga County Commissioner, I work tirelessly to address the critical issues of Ohio's largest county. While the economy has presented budgetary challenges, our county's bond rating is the second highest in the state, indicating sound financial management of our limited resources.

Our long-term objective is regional economic development that harnesses the energy and unique assets of Northeast Ohio. I successfully urged my colleagues to invest in economic development. As a result, we have allocated $20 million in general funds to innovative programs that have created jobs. The Medical Mart/Convention Center project and the Great Lakes Advanced Energy Task Force are other initiatives critical to our future.

Serving as one of three commissioners is challenging. One must be a firm, independent voice while working well with others. As my opposition to the unvoted sales tax to finance the Medical Mart/Convention Center complex and my vote to save over $30 million dollars by preserving the Ameritrust Tower demonstrate, I do not fear standing alone.

I have the passion and ability to lead the area in which I was born, raised and nurtured - our home. I ask for your support so that I can continue to be the independent voice that you trust.

• Established and chairs CuyahogaNext Advisors, a panel of experts who help shape the county's job creation/attraction/ retention strategy
• Established the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative and chairs the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood
• Actively involved in efforts to adopt a regional approach to economic development, land use planning and advocacy
• Led the campaigns to establish a Regional Arts and Culture District and create a public fund to support our world-class arts and cultural institutions
• Worked with county officials to implement foreclosure prevention and rescue and predatory lending enforcement programs
• Initiated the Smart Start Plus program to provide private sector summer jobs for less affluent teens
